While the initial idea for Project A34K was to improve a few of the more offensive Xenomorph effects of Alien ³, it soon developed into a mission to improve them all, and then I eventually decided to improve every other visual effect in the film as well.
While the Alien itself is the element that suffers most from bad compositing, a lot of the establishing shots got a pretty raw deal too. There are eight shots where they decided in post to include this awful, cheap looking dust particle overlay, that looks like someone stabbing at the film with a ballpoint pen. I removed all of these effects, and replaced them with more up to date weather effects to reflect dust, snow, and wind.
There are a few other environmental shots that have been fixed too. The shot of the furnace during the funeral has been enhanced, as well as the shot where Ripley and Dillon fall to the ground when the tunnel explodes. I've also created a new shot for the film, using the establishing shot of Fury 161 from the beginning of the movie as a baseline. The end of the movie now has the same shot, but reworked to show the sunrise during the film's climax.
Here is a before and after reel of all environmental shots.
